  • Explore opportunities through special workshops for parents and teachers of blind children, students and blind merchants and entrepreneurs. Check out our GPS Technology and Apps workshop and more.

  • Examine new products at the exhibit hall on Friday. Should Aira, a new technology, be in your future?

  • Help us raise expectations for ourselves and for officials who manage services for the blind.

Can the blind play soccer? Can the blind perform ballet? Can the blind participate in a tractor pull? At last year’s convention, we met and heard from blind persons who accomplished these things and more. To refresh your memory, go to www.nfbmd.org/success/ and choose Living the Lives they Want: The Generations Tell Their Stories. What interesting pursuits by blind people will we learn about at the 2018 Convention?

Do you want to meet seniors who are living the lives they want despite losing their vision later in life? Do you want to meet blind people who are successfully employed in everything from electrical engineering to clerical work? Do you want to meet blind people who own and operate their own businesses? By networking at the convention, you will meet all these types of people and more.

The banquet on Saturday evening is the highlight of every convention. Our keynote speaker, Adelmo Vigil, has survived sixteen years of teaching sighted students in elementary school and helped blind people raise their expectations in his service as Deputy Director of the New Mexico Commission for the Blind. You will not want to miss his inspirational address. At the banquet we will also award scholarships. We will recognize children and adults who have overcome odds and lived they lives they want through our Jennifer Baker and Anna Cable Awards.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Come to the convention to find out how you can make sure that blindness does not hold you back. For the latest information go to www.nfbmd.org.
